Frozen’s poster was created by British designer Paul Wilson, whose
Denmark-based company Yellow1 has produced artwork for films including
Lars von Trier’s The Five Obstructions (for which he won Danish Poster
2003), Guy Ritchie’s Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,
Jonathan Glazer’s Sexy Beast and Thomas Vinterberg’s It’s
All About Love
“ With all of the visuals we tried I was keen to produce a feeling
of isolation and solitude, while flavouring them with a surreal and unnerving
character.”
I utilised cold colours throughout and felt that maintaining space was
key to achieving the unnerving dramatic impact we wanted. Searching was
also an underlying theme that I felt was important.
“
With version 3, I made a huge block of ice (30cm2) and scanned it and made
it into the sky to add a surreal and cold ambience – I like the feel
that the poster itself was “frozen” on inspection.”
“
The lead actress Shirley Henderson’s reflection with the red coat
is a nice narrative. Red was a key element in the visual amongst the cold
hues and the way she looks out into an infinite skyline with all that space
around her feels really eerie.”
